"The Sensational Sixties": Pinup Girl Clothing, Harley Dress in 1960's Print

This Friday's blog post is all about this gorgeous PUG dress I scored from their online yard sale way back in the Spring. I thought I'd give my incite on the dress, and review this beauty which is sadly discontinued.

Now, I wanted to have a 'photo shoot' with this dress at a perfect location; one that the dress would fit in with perfectly. I remembered that I was planning a trip to my favorite place, ever, Fairmount, Indiana sometime in July. For those of you who may be thinking "what is Fairmount", let me tell you that is the hometown of legendary actor James Dean, whom I love and care for deeply. This small town has made my love for him so much deeper, that I have a passion for this incredible town and the people in it! I could go on, and on about this peaceful town, but I think I might save that for a future blog post.
I planned and hoped to stay longer, but time was cut short due to some very sudden, and unfortunate circumstances. None the less, I was honored enough to try out a photo shoot for this dress at an ideal location. About a year or two ago, a friend of mine, whom I met through James Dean, purchased a house in Fairmount. Now, he is from Australia so he couldn't be in Fairmount to fix the home up and what not, but with a the help of James Dean Gallery owner David Loehr along with a few others, the home became brand new, as if you'd have bought it in the 1930's (era that the home was built in). This home is stunning. I saw what the home looked like last July, while it was in the process of being fixed up, and let me tell you...I am still amazed at how fabulous David has made it. Everything is pristine and authentic - perfect for anyone who enjoys and appreciates preservation of older homes.

Anyhow, I had the opportunity to stay there, and while I was there, I couldn't think of a more perfect location spot for this dress.

Would've liked to have taken more photos in the kitchen area, as it too is spectacular and authenticated to its true era, but we had some of our things in there that just made it look - not as 1930's, haha. 

As for this dress, when I first had my eye on it, I knew I had to have it. The color combination, pattern on it, and cut of the dress astounds me. The color of the dress is so bright, and crystal clear. The belt fits nice 'n snug (not to mention the fit of the dress in general fits like a glove), the fabric has plenty of air to breathe, is light and perfect for a hot summers day. Pair a dress like this with a super cute round toed flat, and its the perfect/ideal 1960's "summer beach movie" style. 

A dress like this is perfect for any woman. It gives a girl curves, even if she might not have any. That's the idea with dresses such as these. They give you definition in the waist, fit tight to the front and back, then flares out with a big circle skirt at the bottom - can't ask for anything better.

White bracelet: Vintage Bakelite, bought at a thrift store for a dollar or two.

Brown bracelets: Wooden bracelets given to me by my Mom. 

Cat brooch: Given to me by a very close friend. Definitely from the early 60s, which makes it perfect for this dress. It actually kind of blends in with the dress...oops. 

Shoes: Wal-Mart, for $10. 

Again, the location for this shoot was in Fairmount, Indiana...James Dean's hometown, at this lovely home located on Vine St. This home is actually open to be rented for those who wish to stay in Fairmount for a couple days, see the sites, places Jimmy had been, the things that were his, etc. If you're a fan of James Dean, and have always wanted to visit, or have been planning to visit this summer, then contact James Dean Gallery owner David Loehr, as he handles all such matters.

Foot note: this home is not open during the month of the annual James Dean festival, as the owner of the home usually stays there during that time. :-) 

To finish this post, I wanted to share one last thing with you all. Fairmount, Indiana is probably one of the only towns, in America, that I can think of (other than Memphis and Graceland) that is completely and utterly dedicated to the one and only James Dean. Every last weekend in September, there is an annual James Dean festival. People come from all over the world to see it. With so much to see and do. Not to mention, on the last weekends in May, June and July, there are little get-together's in town for fans. Every. Single. Thing, in this town is in tribute to this man....literally....everything. I've never seen so much dedication, it really warms my heart to see. What I wanted to share with you, is a short film made by Michael Mathias, entitled "Saving Fairmount" in which he has been working on for a good two years I'd say. He just this past Monday finally finished and published to YouTube. It really touched my heart. Not only because of James Dean, but because this town of Fairmount, means so damn much to me. It hurts me to see the town (let alone any small town), struggle to stay on the map. Anyone who may read this post, and wants to know, or get a quick incite on what James Dean's hometown is truly all about, I urge you to watch it.

2015 Wishlist

This year I wanted to make myself a 'Wishlist' of things I want to either do, or get. I'm going to share with you some of those wishes with you. My wishlist is really all over the place - things that I wish for just sort of pop into my head and I think, man, I gotta have this. There are though, things that never leave my mind and are always something I desire most. Now, almost everything on my wishlist are things that I can't afford at this very moment, but I suppose it's okay to dream and drool over things, right? Maybe. I lust after too many things, and I even more so envy so many whom have the things that I can only dream of. This year is a year where I wish for things that someday soon I can have for myself. Lets get this thing started. 

I'd like to begin by saying this, Pinup Girl Clothing.

The fact that I only have one of their items, saddens me to no end. Everything on their website is beautiful and I would literally buy every single thing on their website if I was a millionaire. On PUG's website they have a section where you can make your own wishlist of various clothing pieces. My wishlist has about 32 items on it - each one, calling my name, telling me to buy them. It may seem foolish but I actually tend to freak out at the thought that some of their prints/designs will no longer be available or will be gone...forever. Thus why I need to start getting in gear and purchase some more PUG pieces. Since the number of items in my wishlist is so high, I came up with two of my favorite pieces that I want more than any others.

Second picture: Evelyn dress in vintage blue rose floral with bolero; only one size left which just so happens to be my size...too bad I can't snatch one right now. 

There are so many websites of vintage style clothing that I lust over everyday, so I've compiled two of the many brands that I really would like to purchase something from in the future: 

I'm really in need of some good seamed stockings and in fact, a good retro-styled garter belt. I could kick myself for still not having those proper lingerie pieces. They're just so hard to come by. I've never seen them in the stores (good ones anyways), and when I'd look for some retro ones on eBay, they were just way too much. Not too long ago I came across the perfect website that reproduces retro styled lingerie from the 1940's/1950's. 

What Katie Did has the best selection, good prices, and from what I can gather, good quality. They're definitely a must for me. 

Another website that I've been hoping to get something off of for the longest time is Atomic Swag. This company has the cutest t-shirts with the rad-est designs on them. I'm not even sure why I haven't bought one yet. They're incredibly reasonable. The prices are more than budget friendly. I think that my next purchase online will probably be from this website. 

For accessories, I'm in love with the brand Luxulite. They're on Etsy, and they have the most adorable brooches/earrings/necklaces I have ever seen! I came so close to getting one for my birthday last year when they had their Halloween collection but I got a pair of cats eye glasses online instead (which I don't regret buying by any means) but I need to treat myself to a Luxulite brooch super soon. 

My next two favorite brands of accessories that I lust over which are also both on Etsy are, Charcoal Designs, and Poison of Choice. Both are unique and different in their own ways. Check 'em out! I know I'll be purchasing something from them...they're a major part of my wishlist! 

For makeup, I also have many wishes for various products/brands of makeup. All of my makeup wishes are really things from Sephora. But what I really would like most are these products: 

Lime Crime is my biggest wish for this year. I hear such great things about this brand, and to top it all off, they're animal cruelty free, or vegan. You know a brand's gotta be good when they're vegan.

This is the majority of my wishlist for 2015, but it grows larger each day. I hope that by next year I have some of these items on my wishlist. Anything you're absolutely dying to get? Tell me about whats on your wishlist.

Holidayz

Another year is coming to a close, and I have a lot to be thankful for, this year. I'm not going to go into detail or anything, but I feel very lucky to be alive.

Even though the Christmas holiday is over, I want to share with all of you, my Christmas eve, and Christmas day outfits. I would have uploaded them after Christmas, but I have been busy and too tired to post, so here goes!

For Christmas eve, I didn't want to wear something too fancy because I wasn't heading out anywhere, and my family friends were arriving. I wore a simple vintage white and red stripped sweater, and black pants. I had a vintage brooch from the 1950s/1960s, that has holly on it an is a cute little bell. I had my hair done, having pin curls in my hair for three days, and accessorized it with one of my homemade Christmas hair pieces, which I showed you guys in one of my last posts.

For Christmas day, I wanted to share some of the goodies I received. I don't ask for much, because I don't like telling people to get me things, but when you have family that understand you and knows what you like, well I got spoiled. 

I finally received something from Pinup Girl Clothing, which is something I've been lusting over for a very long time!

Left to right: PUG Jenny skirt in red and chocolate brown harlequin, This Property is Condemned  soundtrack with Natalie Wood, four lovely paintings which my sister painted for me of Ann Margret, Elvis Presley, Ricky Nelson, and Natalie Wood, and then finally an Elvis pillow which I have also been obsessing over for some time now. 

I couldn't wait to put my new skirt on. I wore it Christmas day, with a black v-neck, black cardigan, black flats, a vintage pink opera belt which matched perfectly, and I also have a vintage wreath brooch that has pink stones in it. For my hair, I put it up in a sort of vintage-style, and of course, put one of my hair accessories in. 

Now, I see a lot of people who review their new PUG pieces, so I figured I'd do it anyway, since I just love this skirt so damn much. 

When I put this skirt on, I was a little disappointed on the fact that it was a tiny bit too big, and sits above my hips. It's a size medium, but the last time I measured my waist I was a 28 or 29 inch, thus why I assumed it would fit snug, being that's the size for the waist on the PUG size chart for M. It's been awhile since I measured my waist, so maybe I've gone down. I just worry that the next time I try getting a PUG piece that its too tight, if I get a small instead....I guess I'll just have to go to the Pinup Girl Boutique in Burbank, Cal. and try stuff on. Not sure when I'd be able to get down to California. I suppose every piece is different. Anyway, besides the size mishap, I LOVE this skirt. It's the most beautiful skirt that I own. The color is stunning, the fabric is lovely, the pattern - oh, that harlequin!!!!!!! I just looooooooooooove it! I was also really quite happy with length of this skirt. I like that it goes a little below the knee, because in my opinion, it makes for a more authentic 1950's circle skirt. I never ever want to take this skirt off. 

I cannot wait to get me another PUG piece. I want all the Jenny's!!! I can't get over this color combo! I love that I have a lot of shirts and accessories that will go perfectly with this. I have lots of black (a heck of a lot; aka my entire wardrobe), pinks, reds, and soft whites. This skirt gets better and prettier each time I wear it. Beware: I will have many outfit's in the new year with this skirt, so keep an eye out! 

I've had a pretty good Christmas, and pretty good year. I can only hope that 2015 will be positively smashing! I have a lot to look forward to, and can only wish for the best. I've been itching to share with everyone my goals and ambitions for the new year, but that will just have to wait until the new year comes.
